Thank you for your interest in NewGate
We love to meet new families and talk about Montessori and what the school has to offer. NewGate brings young people together from a broad spectrum of ethnic, national, religious, and economic backgrounds. We welcome diversity and help our children broaden their perspective of the world through friendships based on mutual respect and understanding.
The Admissions Process:
Each new application to NewGate is carefully considered to find the best match between student, family, and school.
The First Step
The admissions process begins very simply with a casual initial conversation. Most prospective parents then elect to visit the school and speak with members of our parent community.
Open House
For the health and safety of our staff, we will not be offering in-person Open Houses until further notice. We are currently doing individual in-person and virtual school tours. Sign-up by clicking the button below.
Should I Bring My Child?
Bringing children along when you first visit a school can be confusing for them and distracting to you. You will want to focus your full attention on the details of the school and what makes it unique. We recommend that you visit the school, or schools, that you are considering first, and then bring your child back to visit the one(s) that you feel might be the right fit. Most independent schools will ask children to come in for one or two classroom visits.
Ambassador Parents
Our families love NewGate and are happy to share their experience with you. Some families have High School age children who have been at NewGate since they were toddlers, other families have transferred to NewGate for various reasons at different stages of development, and all are happy to answer any questions you may have. A list of contact information is available upon request.
Initial Conversations
In addition to attending Open House, many families will arrange one or more individual meetings with our staff to discuss the school and their children. Our goal is to help every prospective family make the best decision possible about their children’s long-term education before they apply.
Observing a Class at Work
Montessori classes are quite different from the traditionally structured classrooms which most parents knew when they were young, and we encourage parents who are interested in the school to spend an hour or longer quietly observing a class at work. Please call (941) 922-4949 to schedule a visit.
We are here to help.
Feel free to contact Tanya Ryskind ([email protected]), Head of School, by email or by calling the school at (941) 922-4949.
Parents who are first considering Montessori often have many questions. Just ask—we’re here to help. Our goal is not to “sell” parents like you on either Montessori or NewGate as a school. Our mission is simply to help each family find the perfect match!
